Trying to input fishing ship in ‘Ship Type’ in A051T configuration tool, but keep getting ‘failed’ message. I don’t think the problem is related to AIS transponder itself since all other information was setup well. Can anybody throw some light on this, please?

Sorry for the confusion. Ship type field should be input the related type code. More information about the ship type code can be found online. https://api.vtexplorer.com/docs/ref-aistypes.html .
For example, if your boat is fishing one, then 30 should be input there. Hope this makes sense.

Thank you for your prompt reply. It works well now. One more question, please. If there is an easy way to check if the transmission works well? I am not in the marina so cannot get other boats to check my transmission messages. Any idea if I can check here at my house? Thanks

Ideally, you do need to get nearby AIS receiver/transponder to check the sentences sending from yours. But checking the TX LEDs on A051T gives you an idea that the internal transmission module works well. After powering up A051T, within 10 seconds you should see the TX LED flash twice. This indicates that A051T transmit an AIS sentence in two channels respectively.

In practice, if you have an AIS receiver, e.g your A023, which is less than one meter away from the A051T, you probably will see the AIS sentences on your A023 even no VHF antenna installed on A051T.

            Good luck.
