Hello, I recently purchased an A027 AIS receiver, after installation AIS works via wifi but the connection to the Raymarine C80 plotter (~2006) is not. I have connected A027 NMEA Out+ —-> C80 NMEA In + (ve) and A027 NMEA Out-
> C80 NMEA In – (ve) but no sentences reach the C80 Plotter. Reading on this forum I found that one possibility is to swap NMEA +/-, I would like to be sure I understood correctly, it means to connectA027 NMEA Out + —-> C80 NMEA In – (ve) and A027 NMEA Out-
> C80 NMEA In + (ve)It seems a little strange to me so I would like some feedback. If a swap of this sort is not working are you sure that with your Garmin bridge the problem will be solved?
Thank you for the help

Yes, This is due to different NMEA standard version. We will upgrade our hardware in the near future to compatible with all existing NMEA 0183 products. Thanks.
June 3, 2020 at 11:26 am #15011Hallo, you wrote “solved” too early, I tried to reverse the polarity in the NMEA input of the Raymarine C80 (~ year 2006) plotter but nothing has changed, AIS still doesn’t work.
Please Help

Sorry Marco, no problem lets keep chasing the issue. Can you please confirm you have setup the baud rate the same at both side?
June 3, 2020 at 1:07 pm #15013I have not changed the A027 configuration and I have set the NMEA port to 38400 for AIS on the C80 plotter. I have a computer with linux and I don’t know how to check the baud rate of the A027. In the C80 Raymarine manual I only found named the RS232 protocol never the RS422.
Thanks for the prompt reply.

check this post please: https://www.quark-elec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13423&p=16349&hilit=raymarine#p16349 Generally for C serial chartploter, you are suggested to have the protocol bridge. Thanks.
June 3, 2020 at 5:32 pm #15015I checked the post, the user Trellsy assures it has made the AIS work
without the protocol bridge with a C120, with the protocol bridge he failed. I will retry with more conviction to swap the wires. Thanks for now.June 9, 2020 at 1:13 pm #15016Solved – With a little more of patience connecting the A027 NMEA Out + with C80 Raymarine NMEA In -ve (color green) and A027 NMEA Out – with C80 Raymarine NMEA In +ve (color white) the AIS is working on the C80 screen. Then for the C80 plotter of year ~2005 the swap is the solution. Thanks for the help.

Well done Marco! So reversing two NMEA wires worked? Interesting that this didn’t work at your first trial. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
June 10, 2020 at 9:39 am #15018Correct, in the first attempt I was in a hurry and I did not wait enough time, the shift between “NO AIS” and “AIS” is not immediate in the C80 plotter.
Best regards.
Marco
