I have an A026 which I use with Sea IQ. Last season I tried to connect an Azimuth 1000 digital compass (NEMA 0183) to send a heading to my iPad and/or my Nobeltec chartplotter (PC based). Never got the heading, maybe I need the multiplexer bridge. But that’s not my problem now. I disconnected the compass. There are no other devices connected with the exception of GPS/AIS. This was working fine prior to attempting the heading connection. I attempted to configure as per your instructions a year ago. PROBLEM: I am constantly getting “check sum” errors on my iPad when using Sea IQ. I talked extensively with them and they say that there is nothing from their end causing this issue. My dock-friend uses the same set up and I can go to his boat and connect to his A026 and I do not receive the check sum errors. Conversely, he goes to my boat gets the error messages on HIS iPad. This leads me to believe there is an issue with the A026. Can anyone help me with this? I have a major cruise coming up in 4 weeks and really need to get this resolved. PLEASE HELP!

Would like to add that the test conducting between my iPad and my friend’s iPad was conducting using “clean” power from an AC “cube” usb and NOT via my PC usb. Therefore, do not believe my computer is causing this issue. Can the A026 be sent somewhere for testing? Is it possible that it has become corrupted? Thanks for any help.

Please tell me that I’m NOT the only one who has ever had an issue with “check sum” warnings! I’ve sent Quark 2 emails asking for help and now I’m getting nothing from the forum. Sad.

            Hi Banjoman,

Sorry for the issue. Can you provide a screenspot of your error message so we can investigate the issue for you? We do have some customers using SeaIQ and didn’t hear any issues they reported. So it will be very interesting to see why this happened on your iPad.

Thank you for your response. I am not onboard at this time. When I am I will take a screen shot (not sure how I do that on an iPad). Keep in mind, as stated in my previous missive, this error pops up on my friends iPad when is on board as well. This was part of our “blind” test. Two iPads, but receive the check sum error messages. When I take MY iPad to my friends vessel (same A026 set-up as I have) I receive NO check sum messages. Also, part of our test was to power the A026 from a “clean power” source and NOT my PC. Is there any possibility that the A026 couldn’t have become corrupted? I disconnected the KVH Azimuth 1000 digital compass at Seaiq’s request. If the bad data were coming from that device, the notices should have stopped.

I spoke with the tech at KVH (makers of the Azimuth 1000). There compass sends the signal at a 4800 baud, RS422 protocol. Even though I disconnected the compass once I started receiving check sum error warnings, I am still receiving these warnings. All I have connected now is a combo GPS/AIS antenna. Would like to add (again) that the system originally worked fine. Is there any chance your unit could be corrupted? Can I send it to you for a bench test?
