      I recently purchased the QK-A024 AIS receiver, along with the QK-AS03 Bridge to connect to my Garmin GPSMap 551.

      I am experiencing difficulty receiving AIS information on my Garmin. Receiver appears to work fine, I can connect to it on my laptop using the WiFi feature and view nearby ships. I have verified that the NMEA ports on the receiver work fine by placing an LED on them to see the data being sent, as well as checking the voltage between them.

      That means the issue must lie in either the Protocol Bridge, or the Garmin itself. I was wondering if you were aware of any possible issues with the bridge that could cause the Garmin not to read any information?

        Connecting our AIS receiver to the Garmin chart plotter is a very common application. Many many of our customers using them in this way.

        If you can provide the information about your connections(wiring diagram will be much helpful), we will help you out.

        Thanks

          Thanks for your reply.
          Wiring seemed pretty straightforward; tx on the bridge to NMEA input on the Garmin, and rx to NMEA output on the Garmin. Garmin and bridge are on the same ground, as instructed in the Garmin manual. (Apparently NMEA ground is through the Garmin ground).
          I’ve tried swapping the wires but I’ve had no results. I’ve also tested the voltage across the Bridge and ground using an LED and voltmeter.
          The tx shows 5 volts and always on LED (should this not be flickering to show a signal being sent, like on the A024 NMEA outputs?) And the Rx shows 0 volts and LED off.
          Hope that makes sense to you. I have also provided a wiring diagram if the above isn’t clear enough.

            The drawing makes sense. I didn’t see any problem with the connections.

            Another point I want to draw your attention to:

            Please make sure to select ‘High speed’ as the NMEA input baud rate for the Garmin plotter.

              I performed the steps described, set baud rate and disconnected blue wire. However I still don’t have any data on my Garmin.
              Could there be anything else I’m missing?

                Image shows where the problem is: NMEA OUT from A024 should go to NMEA IN on AS03 side, not NMEA OUT!
                NMEA OUT(A024) —-> NMEA IN(AS03) Correct
                NMEA OUT(A024) —-> NMEA OUT(AS03) Wrong!!!

                  Wow, I can’t believe it. It’s always a simple fix. Thank you very much for your time and help.
