I have installed the driver and use “Free Serial Port Monitor” to attach to COM4 in Windows 10. All that I receive, standing in aback garden, less than 2 miles from the Thames is “Quark-elec:No valid AIS signal”.
I am using QK-A021 AIS Receiver USB Dongle and QK-AS02 AIS/VHF Antenna – Antenna + Clasp mount with 5 meters cable. The serial port monitor is set at 9600, 8, N, 1, Hardware flow control (which I imagine must be OK, as the error message is presumably coming over the virtual COM port).
Any idea what I am doing wrongly?
Unfortunately, this indicated A021 didn’t pick up proper AIS messages. Try to be closer to the beach, please? A021 is our very entry-level single-channel AIS receiver. Try to be more close to the beach and with a proper antenna please.

It looks like we will be in lock-down for a few more months, so I cannot go nearer to the boats.. in any case, I would prefer to develop an MVP which I can run continuously from home.
Which is the cheapest receiver which I could use, living 2 miles from the River Thames and receive some AIS signals?
